How our kits work

One hide, one thing

Every YOVAREL kit arrives cut, punched and bevelled from vegetable-tanned leather. The knife work is done; the stitching is yours.

01

We start with vegetable-tanned leather

Every kit is cut from vegetable-tanned cowhide: leather tanned with plant tannins rather than chromium salts. It is firm enough to hold an edge, takes a stamp and a burnish, and darkens slowly with use. We state the thickness on every kit, from 1.4 mm for wallets to 2.4 mm for straps and the desk organiser.

It is a natural material. Scars, growth marks and small shade differences between pieces are part of it, and they are not faults.

02

The knife work is done before it reaches you

Cutting leather cleanly takes sharp blades and practice, and it is where most beginners get hurt or give up. So every piece in a YOVAREL kit arrives cut to shape, with its stitch holes punched and its edges bevelled. You never need a knife, and we do not sell one.

The holes are diamond-shaped and 4 mm apart on every kit. Our pricking irons and spacing wheel use the same 4 mm, so when you start drawing your own patterns, your stitches will match.

You do the part that makes it yours

Stitching, burnishing, setting the last knot. Every kit comes with two blunt needles, wax-yellow thread measured for that kit and a fold-out step card with the same steps you see on the kit page. We sort kits by how long they take a first-timer: one hour, half a day or one day.

Then it gets better with use

Natural vegetable-tanned leather starts pale and turns a deeper honey colour with handling and light. Two card sleeves made on the same day will not look the same a year later, and that is the point.
